As we all know Pakistan has a dynamic landscape; lakes, waterfalls, springs, glaciers, rivers, deserts. These all add beauty to this country. This article is about, much renowned Hunza valley. The valley is often referred to as heaven on earth.
This beautiful heaven-like valley with 2,438 meters is enveloped in the grand Himalayas and the Karakoram mountain ranges. Hunza attracts a great number of tourists each year.
The valley is surrounded by a whole new spectrum of colours, it is mesmerized. The meadows, plants laden with white, pink, and orange flowers could be found all over. With thousands and thousands of flowers alongside the road from Hussainabad to Aliabad, it seemed to be the literal meaning of primrose path.
History
Buddhism, and to a lesser extent, Bon were the main religions of the valley. The region was Buddhist majority till the 15th century, before the arrival of Islam in this region. The region has a number of surviving Buddhist archaeological sites, such as the Sacred Rock of Hunza.
In the early 1890s, the British embarked upon a mission to annex Hunza and Nagar, which is also known as the Hunza-Nagar Campaign. British soldiers led by Colonel Durand occupied Nilt Fort in 1890. After that, they proceeded to the Baltit Fort, but faced heavy resistance. The British gained complete control of Hunza and Nagar with little effort. Thereafter, the Mir of Hunza, Safdar Ali Khan along with his family, fled to Kashgar in China, and his brother Mir Muhammad Nazim Khan was made the new ruler of Hunza by the British.
Hunza is situated at the bank of Hunza River in the northern part of Gilgit-Baltistan. It is bordering with Ishkoman in the northwest, Shigar to the southeast, Afghanistan’s Wakhan Corridor to the north, and the Xinjiang region in China to the northeast.
Several high peaks rise above 7,000 m in the surroundings of Hunza Valley including Rakaposhi 7,788 m, Ultar Sar 7,388 m, Bojahagur Duanasir-II 7,329 m, Diran peak (7,266), Hunza Peak 6,270 m and Bublimating (Ladyfinger Peak) 6,000 m.
