Pakistan’s T20 series against New Zealand came alive in spectacular fashion on Friday as Hasan Nawaz smashed a historic maiden century, leading his team to a resounding nine-wicket win at Eden Park, Auckland.

The 23-year-old opener, who started his international career with back-to-back ducks in the first two T20s, turned the tide with an unbeaten 105 off just 44 balls, the fastest T20 century by any Pakistani. His breathtaking knock powered Pakistan to 207-1 in only 16 overs, chasing down New Zealand’s formidable 204-run total with remarkable ease.

Nawaz’s innings was a display of fearless and calculated aggression. He tore apart New Zealand’s bowling attack, hitting 10 fours and 7 sixes, and played audacious ramp shots with confidence. The short boundaries of Eden Park played to his strengths, but it was his intent and execution that truly stood out.

His record century came off 44 balls, surpassing Babar Azam’s 49-ball ton against South Africa in 2021. Nawaz sealed both his century and Pakistan’s victory in style — with back-to-back fours off Kyle Jamieson in the 16th over.

Partnering with Nawaz at the top, Mohammad Haris contributed a fiery 41 off 20 balls, setting the tone for the chase. Captain Salman Agha also remained unbeaten on 51 off 31 balls, providing steady support and ensuring there were no hiccups in reaching the target.

Earlier, Pakistan opted to bowl first, but New Zealand’s Mark Chapman took charge, blasting 94 off 44 balls with 11 fours and 4 sixes. Despite his efforts, the hosts couldn’t post a total beyond Pakistan’s reach. The rest of New Zealand’s lineup faltered, with only captain Michael Bracewell (31) offering notable resistance.

Pakistan’s bowling attack, led by Haris Rauf’s 3-29, restricted New Zealand efficiently, dismissing them in the final over for 204.

This emphatic victory not only keeps Pakistan alive in the five-match series, now trailing 1-2, but also marks a stunning comeback for Hasan Nawaz, who has now stamped his authority with a world-class performance.

Game four is set for Sunday in Mount Maunganui, and with momentum on their side, Pakistan will aim to level the series.
