Who will be the next BCCI President? Name revealed
On Saturday, a day before the deadline for filing nominations for various positions in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Mithun Manhas emerged as the sole candidate to have submitted papers for the post of president, a position considered the most powerful and wealthiest in the cricketing world.
According to a Cricinfo report, the post has been vacant since August, when former Indian all-rounder Roger Binny resigned. In the interim, BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla has been serving as acting president.
If elected, Manhas would become only the second cricketer to hold the top office among current BCCI officials. Meanwhile, former Karnataka and India spinner Raghuram Bhat is expected to take over as treasurer. Bhat is currently the president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association.
Turning 46 in October, Mithun Manhas is part of the BCCI-appointed sub-committee managing the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association. Born in Jammu, he moved from Delhi to Jammu & Kashmir in 2015, a year before his retirement. Post-retirement, he worked as a coach and batting consultant with several teams, including Bangladesh Under-19, Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Gujarat Titans.
A stalwart of Indian domestic cricket, Manhas scored 9,714 runs in 157 first-class matches between 1997-98 and 2016-17. He also accumulated 4,126 runs in 130 List A matches and 1,170 runs in 91 T20 appearances.
