Formula 1 has confirmed six Grands Prix that will feature the sprint format for the 2025 season.
The sprint events, which consist of a shorter race on Saturday preceding the main race on Sunday, will commence with the second Grand Prix of the season in China on March 21-23, 2024.
The other host locations include Miami (May 2-4), Belgium (July 25-27), the US Grand Prix in Austin (October 17-19), Brazil (November 7-9), and Qatar (November 28-30).
This format, designed to increase audience engagement and bring more on-track action, has proven successful, with live audience figures showing a 40% increase for sprint events compared to standard practice sessions. F1 Chairman Stefano Domenicali highlighted the format’s success, noting increased fan attendance and positive feedback from promoters and partners.
This format was introduced in 2024, separates the sprint race from the main Grand Prix, with a dedicated qualifying session for each.
The 2025 season will maintain this format, starting in Australia on March 14-16 and marking F1’s 75th anniversary. While future modifications to the format may be considered, no immediate changes are planned for next year.
