Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi assured fans and reporters on Sunday that the future of young batter Saim Ayub will not be compromised for the sake of next month’s ICC Champions Trophy. Ayub, who suffered a fractured ankle during the second Test against South Africa in Cape Town earlier this month, is currently recovering from the injury, and the PCB is taking no chances with his long-term fitness.

Naqvi, speaking from Houston, emphasized that Saim Ayub’s rehabilitation would be closely monitored and that no risk would be taken to rush his recovery ahead of the Champions Trophy, which will be held in Pakistan and Dubai from February 19 to March 9. Despite Ayub’s initial six-week recovery period, the PCB has sent him to England for consultations with specialist sports injury orthopedic surgeons, ensuring he receives the best care.

“I am in touch with his doctors on a daily basis, and his [Saim’s] ankle plaster will come off in the next few days,” Naqvi confirmed. “But it will take time for his complete recovery, and we are not going to risk his future career just for the Champions Trophy. He is our asset, and we want him fully fit, whatever time is required. I am personally monitoring his progress.”

The Pakistan selectors have held off naming their squad for the Champions Trophy, waiting to confirm whether Saim Ayub would be available for the prestigious tournament. With Naqvi’s assurance, the PCB is focused on ensuring the young talent makes a full recovery rather than rushing him back prematurely.

Ayub’s injury has been a setback for both the player and the team, but with the PCB’s careful approach to his rehabilitation, they are ensuring that he has a bright and long-lasting career. Fans and cricket pundits alike will be watching closely as the Champions Trophy approaches, but Naqvi’s comments have made it clear that the well-being of their young stars remains the board’s priority.
