KARACHI – Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has officially announced that Karachi will host the 35th National Games from December 6 to 13, after the event was postponed earlier this year due to “unavoidable circumstances.”

Originally scheduled for May 1–9, the National Games were delayed in April. Now, with fresh momentum and renewed planning, the city is set to welcome athletes from across Pakistan for one of the country’s biggest sporting events.

The announcement came during a high-level meeting at CM House on Friday, where Murad Ali Shah met with a delegation from the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) to finalize arrangements. During the meeting, the chief minister pledged full government support to ensure the games meet international standards, both in execution and athlete experience.

“I’m proud Karachi will host this milestone event. We will ensure it reflects the best of Pakistan’s sporting potential,” said CM Murad. He emphasized providing athletes with top-tier facilities including training centers, medical care, safe transport, and world-class infrastructure.

As part of the preparation drive, Murad Ali Shah announced the construction of a new swimming pool and the installation of advanced electronic timing and scoring systems, a significant upgrade to help bring global credibility to local competitions.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Government of Sindh, the POA, and the Sindh Olympic Association, creating a framework for coordinated execution and oversight of the event.

“This initiative marks a turning point in athlete welfare and sports governance,” CM Murad stated. “We are investing in our youth, encouraging talent, and expanding interest in competitive sports across the province.”

POA President Arif Saeed, who led the visiting delegation, appreciated the government’s commitment. He gave an overview of the National Games’ history and noted the growing enthusiasm among athletes eager to compete in December.

“This collaboration between Sindh and POA promises a truly remarkable edition of the Games,” said Saeed, stressing the importance of partnerships to uplift Pakistan’s sports ecosystem.

The POA delegation also included Senior Vice President Fatima Lakhani, Secretary General Khalid Mehmood, and Sindh Secretary Ahmed Ali Rajput. The provincial government side was represented by Principal Secretary Agha Wasif and Sports Secretary Aleem Lashari, who gave a detailed briefing on current preparations.

Key aspects under discussion included athlete accommodation, venue readiness, logistical coordination, and promotional outreach to ensure nationwide participation and viewership.

The 35th National Games are expected to be a defining moment for Pakistan’s sports sector, showcasing Karachi’s capability to host large-scale, well-organized athletic events.

With modern facilities, government backing, and rising athlete enthusiasm, the December games are set to not only revive the competitive spirit but also inspire future generations to pursue sports professionally.
