Reigning champion Jannik Sinner powered into the US Open semi-finals with a commanding 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 win over compatriot Lorenzo Musetti in the first all-Italian men’s Grand Slam quarter-final. The world number one credited his strong start for setting the tone and now faces Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime on Friday. Although Auger-Aliassime holds a 2-1 career edge, Sinner demolished him in Cincinnati last month. With his 86th Grand Slam win, the 24-year-old also tied Nicola Pietrangeli’s Italian record. Auger-Aliassime reached his second US Open semi-final after outlasting Alex de Minaur 4-6, 7-6 (9/7), 7-5, 7-6 (7/4) in a four-hour thriller, marking his first Slam semi since 2021. De Minaur, however, remains winless in six major quarter-finals.

On the women’s side, Amanda Anisimova delivered sweet revenge against Iga Swiatek, defeating the world number two 6-4, 6-3 just months after suffering a double-bagel humiliation at Wimbledon. The American eighth seed called it the most meaningful victory of her career, showing grit after falling behind early in both sets. Swiatek admitted she was far from her best but vowed to move forward. Anisimova’s triumph sets up a semi-final showdown with Naomi Osaka.

Osaka extended her impressive comeback with a 6-4, 7-6 (7/3) win over Karolina Muchova. Striking 30 winners, the two-time US Open champion displayed glimpses of her title-winning form. Osaka, who has never failed to win the tournament after reaching the semi-finals, is chasing her first Slam since becoming a mother. However, she trails 0-2 in her career head-to-head with Anisimova, adding intrigue to their upcoming clash.

The semi-finals now promise compelling storylines: Sinner chasing history, Auger-Aliassime aiming for a breakthrough, Osaka eyeing another New York crown, and Anisimova riding the momentum of her career-defining win.
