CHENGDU – Pakistan’s leading cueist Muhammad Asif opened his World Games snooker campaign in style, outclassing China’s Liang Xiaolong 2-0 at the Civil Aviation Flight University of China Tianfu Campus Gymnasium on Sunday.

The three-time IBSF world champion and Pakistan’s sole snooker representative in the multi-sport event dominated from the start, taking the first frame 79-50 before sealing the match with a convincing 77-24 win in the second.

“This win means a lot to me,” the 43-year-old said. “I’m happy with my performance and hope to keep this momentum going.”

In squash, Nasir Iqbal stormed into the semi-finals with a ruthless 11-3, 11-3, 11-2 demolition of Romania’s Radu Pena, wrapping up the contest in just 22 minutes. The 31-year-old has now conceded only 14 points in his last two matches. Meanwhile, compatriot Noor Zaman advanced to the plate semi-finals via walkover.

The day also saw history in the pool, as Poland’s Julia Malgorzata Kozerska set a new world record in the freediving women’s dynamic without fins event with a distance of 222.5m, surpassing her own 214.0m mark set earlier this year. Hungary’s Zsofia Torocsik claimed silver, while Poland’s Magdalena Solich Talanda took bronze.

In other events, Poland’s Mateusz Jan Malina secured gold in the men’s dynamic without fins with 228.5m, and Chinese wakeboarder Xu Lu triumphed in the women’s freestyle final.

On the water, Indonesia added two more golds in dragon boat racing, while Ukraine and Thailand also tasted victory. Chinese Taipei clinched the women’s 500kg tug-of-war crown, and the men’s softball gold was shared by the USA and Japan after rain washed out the final.
