Turin, Italy – A 25-member Pakistan contingent arrived in the Italian city of Turin on Friday to participate in the 16th World Winter Special Games, set to begin on March 8. The international event, featuring over 1,500 athletes from 93 countries, will run until March 15, showcasing extraordinary talent and determination from participants worldwide.
Upon their arrival at Milan Airport, the Pakistani delegation received a warm welcome from Special Olympics Italy officials before heading to Turin for the grand opening ceremony.
Pakistan’s Participation in the Winter Games
The Pakistani delegation consists of 10 athletes—five male and five female—who will compete in snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Alongside them are coaches, officials, medical staff, and youth leaders, ensuring strong support for the athletes throughout the competition.
In addition to the sporting events, six female members of the delegation will represent Pakistan at the prestigious Global Youth Leadership Summit (GYLS), an international platform that fosters leadership skills among young participants.
Athletes Ready to Shine for Pakistan
Expressing his enthusiasm, Pakistani athlete Mohammad Afaq Khan shared, “Representing Pakistan at the international level is a great honour for us.”
Similarly, fellow athlete Mohammad Moazzam Iqbal voiced his confidence, stating, “We have come with the spirit of victory for Pakistan.”
Another athlete, Tabassum Ahmed, added, “Fully motivated and determined to deliver a great result for the nation.”
Coaches and Officials Praise Athletes’ Hard Work
Pakistan’s coaches, Erum Majeed and Mohammad Irfan, highlighted the significance of participating in such a prestigious event, stating that it would help athletes enhance their skills, gain experience, and build confidence on an international stage.
Head of the delegation, Farkhunda Jabeen, emphasized the rigorous preparation the athletes have undergone for the Winter Games. “Our athletes have trained extensively for this event, and we are confident they will make Pakistan proud,” she remarked.
As the World Winter Special Games 2025 commence, Pakistan’s athletes stand ready to showcase their dedication, perseverance, and sporting excellence, aiming to bring glory to the nation on the global stage.
