LAHORE: The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 is back with fresh signings and renewed energy after a brief suspension caused by regional tensions. Lahore Qalandars, looking to bounce back strong, have welcomed two experienced international stars: Shakib Al Hasan from Bangladesh and Bhanuka Rajapaksa from Sri Lanka.
This development comes after several foreign players exited the tournament when it was paused on May 7 due to escalating tensions between Pakistan and India. Although a ceasefire was reached shortly after, many overseas players had already returned home, prompting teams to rethink and rebuild their lineups.
Big Names, Big Moves
Shakib, the former Bangladesh captain and one of the most consistent all-rounders in world cricket, replaces Daryl Mitchell, who is reportedly sidelined with a hand injury. “It’s a tournament I’ve always enjoyed watching, and now I’m looking forward to contributing on the field,” Shakib said, expressing his excitement about joining the PSL.
Bhanuka Rajapaksa, known for his aggressive batting and fearless style, steps in for England’s Tom Curran, who suffered an ankle injury just before his departure on May 7. “Bhanuka is a proven match-winner with the kind of fearless intent we value at Lahore Qalandars,” said Sameen Rana, Director of Cricket Operations for the team. Rana also acknowledged Curran’s absence, stating, “His energy, commitment, and all-round skills made a strong impact. It’s unfortunate to lose him at this stage, but his long-term fitness is the priority.”
More Additions
Joining the Qalandars setup is Sikandar Raza, the dynamic Zimbabwean all-rounder, who arrived in the camp on Wednesday night. His addition will further strengthen the team’s middle order and provide depth in spin bowling.
Meanwhile, Karachi Kings have signed George Munsey, the attacking Scotland opener, in a strategic move to bolster their top order ahead of a key match against Peshawar Zalmi, which marks the league’s resumption this Saturday at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
