Pakistani athletes Faiqa Riaz and Kishmala Talat have been eliminated from the Paris Olympics after failing to advance past the preliminary rounds in their respective events.
Faiqa Riaz competed in the women’s 100-meter race but did not advance after finishing sixth in Heat 2 with a time of 12.49 seconds. Only the top three from each of the four preliminary heats, along with the five fastest times overall, progress to the next round, leaving Faiqa short of qualifying.
In the women’s 25-meter pistol event, Kishmala Talat placed 22nd overall. Despite strong individual scores in the precision series (95, 99, 99) and the rapid series (98, 93, 99), her total score of 579 was not enough to make it to the top 8 required for advancement.
This marks the end of the Olympic journey for both athletes. Pakistan’s Olympic performance has been challenging this year, with swimmers Ahmed Durrani and Jehanara Nabi, as well as shooter Gulfam Joseph, also having been eliminated.
Looking ahead, Pakistani hopes rest on GM Bashir, who will compete in shooting on August 4, and renowned javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem, whose event begins on August 6.
