Stars of sport, screen and music came together at the Paris 2024 closing ceremony to bring the 33rd Olympic Games to an end.
In a dramatic finale to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, actor Tom Cruise made a memorable appearance as he descended from the roof of the Stade de France to collect the Olympic flag. This iconic moment marked the official handover of the Games to Los Angeles, which will host the Olympics in 2028. Cruise then sped away on a motorcycle, adding a thrilling touch to the ceremony.
The closing event continued with an electrifying music set on Venice Beach, featuring performances by Red Hot Chili Peppers, Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg, and Dr. Dre. Their star-studded performances provided a fitting conclusion to the Games, celebrating the spirit of competition and entertainment.
Earlier in the ceremony, gold medallists Alex Yee and Bryony Page represented Great Britain as flagbearers inside the stadium. Great Britain ended the Games in seventh place on the medal table, achieving a total of 65 medals – including 14 gold, 22 silver, and 29 bronze. This was an improvement from their Tokyo 2020 performance, where they won 64 medals.
In his closing speech, International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach praised the Games as “sensational,” reflecting on the outstanding performances and the unifying spirit of the event.
The Paris 2024 Olympics have now officially concluded, setting the stage for Los Angeles to prepare for the next chapter of the Olympic journey.
